Woodruff Electric Prepared for Winter Weather

February 10, 2021

Woodruff Electric employees and crews have been watching the weather forecast for several days in anticipation of the expected winter weather that is predicted to arrive in our service territory tonight. WECC crews and employees are prepared and awaiting to see what accumulation the area receives. Crews are on standby with extra equipment, fueled trucks, sharpened tools and extra assistance from crews if needed.
Anna Horton, Woodruff Electric Communications and Media Specialist, says, “Snow and accumulating ice can easily bring tree limbs down onto power lines, cutting off power to homes and businesses. Making plans for a power outage can make riding out an outage safer and more comfortable.”

Woodruff Electric offers the following list of items to help you prepare your kit:

• Water – stock up on bottled water for consumption

• Food – have at least enough for 3 to 7 days that includes non-perishable packaged or canned foods, juices, foods for infants or the elderly, and snack foods

• Utensils – include a non-electric can opener, cooking tools, paper plates, and plastic utensils

• Blankets, pillows, and warm clothing items

• First aid kit, medicine, and prescription drugs

• Toiletries, hygiene items, moist towelettes

• Flashlight and batteries – be sure to include extra batteries

• Telephone – keep cell phone chargers (wall, car, and/or solar) on hand and, if you have a landline, a traditional (not cordless) telephone set

• Emergency numbers – keep a list of emergency telephone numbers, including the local utility company

• Cash and credit cards

• Supplies for alternate heating methods you may have, such as a fireplace or wood-burning stove

If outages occur, Woodruff Electric urges the community to stay away from downed power lines as they could still be energized and notify your local utility immediately. Woodruff Electric members are encouraged to visit their website (www.woodruffelectric.com) to view the outage map, which has the most up-to-date outage information for the service area. Members may report an outage by calling 870-633-7100 or 1-888-559-6400 at any time. Woodruff Electric’s Facebook page will have updated outage information as well.
