Marvell Academy’s Johnson wins first in Girls’ Cross Country

Kayla Johnson, of Holly Grove, won first place in the Girls’ Cross Country Meet held on September 28th at the Helena Country Club. Besides being a member of the Marvell Academy Cross Country team, Johnson is on a level 6 competitive cheer team (in Cabot), and plays basketball and runs track for the Lady Eagles. Kayla is the daughter of Shag and April Johnson of Holly Grove.

Kayla Johnson finished first in the girls’ 5K race with a time of 23:48.29, and Audrey Kemmer finished 8th with a time of 26:17.18. The Lady Eagles team finished in third place out of eight teams. The Lady Eagles are coached by April Johnson

At the meet, the top 10 finishers in the Girls’ 5k receive a medal, the top 10 finishers in the boys’ 5k receive a medal and the top team receives a trophy. In the JV 2-mile race, the top 5 girls receive a medal and the top 5 boys receive a medal. The meet was held at the Helena Country Club and was co-hosted by Marvell Academy and DeSoto School. The next meet will be on October 12th.
