Henry Louis Newby, of Holly Grove, died at Baptist Health Center in Stuttgart, at the age of 96. He was born to the family of Henry and Trilla Newby, in Shiloh. Due to the death of his mother shortly following his birth, Henry was raised by his grandmother and aunts in Holly Grove. He received his education and graduated from the Holly Grove School system, graduating in the year of 1943.

He served with the US Air Force from 1943 to 1946. During his service, he worked on and flew with the fuel planes at his duty station in India. Upon his return to civilian life, he began farming in the Holly Grove community, growing cotton and soybeans. He also worked for Butch Kelly’s Hardware and Terra Chemical Gin, both located in Holly Grove.

While in the military, Henry took leave to go home to marry Maxine Fortenberry. They lived in Biloxi, MS for the first six months before moving to Holly Grove and becoming life-long residents. Through the years they were blessed with three sons. Henry was a dedicated member of Holly Grove Presbyterian Church.

Henry Louis was preceded in death by sons Donald (Buddy) Newby, and Frankie Newby; brothers Eugene Newby, W.L. Newby and Thomas Newby; and sister Betty Fuller. He is survived by his wife of 75 years Maxine Fortenberry Newby; son Henry (Annette) Newby Jr.; brother Carl (Nita) Newby; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
