Elmo McMillion, of Brinkley, died Tuesday at his home in Brinkley, at the age of 72. He was born in Brinkley to Odom McMillion Sr. and Janie Hall-McMillion.

He attended the Brinkley Public School System. He was a 1967 graduate of Marian Anderson High School in Brinkley. After graduating high school, Elmo was drafted into the United States Army in 1967. After his discharge from service, Elmo returned to Brinkley to work with his father running the family farm. He farmed from the early 1970’s until 2000, when he retired.

Elmo was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church (currently, Greater First Baptist Church) in Wheatley. He was a faithful and dutiful member until his passing.

His parents, a son, Nakia McMillion, seven brothers: Mathis McMillion, Charles McMillion, Earl McMillion, Richard McMillion, William McMillion, Odom McMillion Jr. and Thomas McMillion, and a sister, Eleanor McMillion-Privett, all preceded Elmo in death.

Survivors are his wife of 51 years, Bertha Reeder-McMillion, of Brinkley; his son, Christopher McMillon, of Toledo, OH; three daughters: Ginger (David) Gowdy and Lakeisha McMillion, both of Chicago, Ill; and Angela (Keenon Sr.) Smith, of Lancaster, TX; seven grandchildren: Cordario McMillion, K’Tiana McMillion and Kyrana McMillion, all of Chicago, Ill; William Keaton, of Dallas, TX; Warren Keaton, of Grand Prairie, TX; and Nefretiri Jackson and Keenon Smith Jr., both of Lancaster, TX; three brothers: Reverend Damon (Flossie) McMillion and Floyd McMillion Sr., both of Brinkley; and Herbert McMillion, of Des Moines, IA; two sisters: Berthella Armstrong and Evelina Williams, both of Brinkley; a brother in law Herman Privett Sr., of Brinkley; two sisters in law: Cloteen McMillion, of Atlanta, GA and Delphine McMillion, of Benton Harbor, MI; and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.

Visitation will be held on Friday evening, January 3 from 6 until 8 PM at Greater First Baptist Church, 119 North Memphis Avenue in Wheatley. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 4 at 2:30 PM at the Brinkley Convention Center, 1501 Weatherby Drive in Brinkley with Reverend Tony Howard officiating. Interment will take place at the McMillion Family Cemetery in Brinkley by Branscumb Johnson & Gilchrest Funeral Home of Brinkley. Pallbearers are: Cordario McMillion, William Keaton, Warren Keaton, Keenon Smith Jr., Janari Gowdy, David Gowdy, Keenon Smith Sr. and Drake McMillion.
