Atlean Tyson March 11, 1932 - January 14, 2020

Atlean Tyson, of Brinkley, died Tuesday, at Cross Ridge Community Hospital in Wynne, at the age of 87. She was the widow of James W. Tyson Sr. Atlean was born in Marvell to Robert Mason and Mae Bell Perkins. She was married to the late James W. Tyson Sr.

Atlean or “Lean” as she was affectionately known, attended school at Marvell. She was a member of St. Paul Full Gospel Church (formerly St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church) in Brinkley for more than 30 years.

In earlier years, Atlean was employed as a housekeeper working for local prominent families. She also worked as a manager of Calvin’s Grocery Store (Hale’s Grocery) in Brinkley for a time.

Her parents, her step father Isom “Buck” Teague Sr., her god parents Jesse and Luvenia Armstrong; her husband, three sons: James Tyson, Jr., Calvin Childs and Lewis Brooms, Sr., two daughters: Earlene Mason and Mae Jean Smith; eleven brothers: Theopolis Teague, Ivory Lee Teague Sr., Daniel Word, Jerry Teague, William Mason, Henry Mason, Robert Mason, Johnny Mason, Alan Mason, Benny Mason and Eddie Mason, a sister Evelyn Jean Teague-Gray all preceded Atlean in death.

Survivors are: three sons: Aubrey Davis Jr., of Houston, TX; Melvin (Jackie) Childs of Stone Mountain, GA; and Willie (Evelyn) Tyson of Atlanta, GA; four daughters: Margaret Mason of Atlanta, GA; Christine Tyson of Little Rock; Doris Ann (Tony) Tyson-Haskins and Betty Tyson-Anderson both of Brinkley; thirty-two grandchildren, fifty-three great grandchildren, a step-son Robert (Dorthea) Davis of Little Rock; ten brothers: Leo Mason, David Mason, Samuel Mason and Aaron Mason all of Atlanta, GA; Eli Mason and Jerry Mason both of Seattle, WA; Walter (Patricia) Teague of Inglewood, CA; Darrell (Stephanie) Teague of Bakersfield, CA; Frantz (Karen) Mormon and Isom Teague Jr. both of Las Vegas, NV; four sisters: Martha (Oliver) Baylor of Atlanta, GA; Mary Ann Mason and Edna Mason both of Seattle, WA and Debra Carter of Groton, CT; and a host of nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Saturday January 25 at St. Paul Full Gospel Church, in Brinkley, with Reverend William Lee Word officiating. Interment will take place at Haven of Rest Cemetery by Branscumb Johnson & Gilchrest Funeral Home of Brinkley.
