Lovie Katrina Wofford September 17, 1965 - February 1, 2020

Lovie Wofford, of Brinkley, passed away at Baptist Health in Little Rock, at the age of 54. She was born in West Memphis to the family of Erma Jean Lowe-Wofford and Rev. Hallie Wofford. She grew up in Brinkley and attended Brinkley public school. She graduated from Brinkley High School in 1983. Following high school, she attended the University of Arkansas, Phillips County Community College in Helena and completed her degree in Elementary Education at Arkansas Baptist College in Little Rock. She also studied Theology and Music.
Forever a hardworking individual, Lovie worked as a U.S. Census-Taker, a machine operator at Remington Arms, an elementary school teacher with the Marianna School District and the Pulaski County Special School District, a teacher with the Little Rock Child Development Center and as a Mary Kay Cosmetics Consultant.
She grew up attending First Missionary Baptist Church, where she eventually became the Minister of Music. There, she began a life-long love of music, playing and singing any time she had the opportunity. She was a prominent fixture in Brinkley, serving on the school board for more than a decade.
She became a mother to William in 1994, and this proved to be the role she was most proud of. She shared her love of music with not only her son but countless others, teaching them to play and sing. She played for many churches and religious events all over the Delta.
Preceded in death by her parents, she is survived by her son, William Wofford, of Brinkley, her siblings: Alicia Wofford-Shelton, Hal Wofford-Hutchison, both of Little Rock, Winthrop Wofford, of DeSoto, TX, and Kenneth Morris of St. Louis, MO; and four nieces: Zainab Shah, Miriam Shelton, Sarah Hutchison, all of Little Rock, and Tia Morris, of St. Louis, MO.
A home-going celebration for Ms. Lovie will be Saturday, February 8 at 1 pm at First Missionary Baptist Church, 303 South New Orleans, Brinkley, with interment following at Haven of Rest Cemetery, in Brinkley. Arrangements are provided by Branscumb Johnson & Gilchrest Funeral Home of Brinkley.
