John Arthur Prunty Sr. March 17, 1932 - February 28, 2020

John Prunty, of Jonesboro, formerly of Augusta, died at Flo & Phil Jones Hospice Center/St. Bernard’s Medical Center in Jonesboro, at the age of 87. John was born in Augusta to Matthew Prunty and Mamie Tyson-Prunty.

“J.C.”, as John was affectionately known, was a lifelong member of New Salem Baptist Church in Augusta. In recent years, while a resident of Jonesboro, he had been attending New St. John Missionary Baptist Church in Jonesboro.

John was formerly employed with his son as a Supervisor at Prunty Enterprises in Blytheville/Jonesboro. He was also formerly employed with Swift Meat Packing Company of Rochelle, Illinois for many years after moving to the area in November, 1963. He also worked at Rockville Children’s Home in Rockford when he retired. John returned to Arkansas in April, 1993.

His parents; his wife, Edna Brown-Prunty; a son, Anthony “Cat Daddy” Seabron; five brothers: John E. Prunty, Mathis Prunty, Bennie Prunty, Floyd Prunty and Henry Prunty; five sisters: Ceola Akins, I.Q. Weldon, Willie Warren, Florida Bevel and Orlena Clark all preceded John Arthur in death. Survivors are: eight sons: Milton Prunty and Walter (Claudia) Gardner, both of Ypsilanti, MI; John A. (Sherry) Prunty Jr. of Blytheville; Paul (Alana) Prunty and Greg Prunty, both of Jonesboro; James (Ann) Prunty, of Thornton, CO; Michael (Eleanor) Prunty, of Killeen, TX; and John (Samarha) Morgan-Prunty, of Tustin, CA; four daughters: Della Prunty-Fobbs, of Augusta; Betty Carter and Zelma Woods, both of Jonesboro; and Patsy Forrest, of Athens, AL; a host of grandchildren, a host of great grandchildren, a great great grandchild, three brothers: Bob (Pat) Prunty, of Modesto, CA; James (Betsy) Prunty, of Rockford, IL and Louis (Linda) Prunty of Jonesboro; and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, March 7, at Holy Ghost Academy Church of God in Christ in Augusta, with Reverend Archie Roark officiating. Interment took place at New Quiet Cemetery by Branscumb Johnson & Gilchrest Funeral Home of Brinkley.
