James Robert Miller, Sr.

September 23, 2025

James Robert “Jimmy” Miller, Sr., age 94, of Indianola, Mississippi, and formerly of Clarendon, Arkansas, passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of Wednesday, September 10, 2025.
Born on August 28, 1931, in Clarendon, Arkansas, Jimmy had just celebrated his 94th birthday. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Elizabeth Ann “Bootsie” Miller, and his grandson, Walter Brooks Hooper, III of Indianola, Mississippi.
Jimmy lived a long, joyful life filled with love, laughter, and stories worth telling. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend, he was happiest when surrounded by family or sharing hunting tales that could stretch on for hours. Known for his playful spirit and quick wit, Jimmy never met a stranger—he could strike up a conversation with anyone and make them feel like an old friend.
Throughout his life, Jimmy built a career as a salesman, working with Sam-Sav Co. and several other companies over the years. His gift of conversation, natural warmth, and easy charm made him a natural fit for the profession and helped him forge countless friendships along the way.
Though he spent much of his later life in Indianola, Mississippi, Jimmy’s roots ran deep in Clarendon, Arkansas. It was there that he developed his lifelong love of hunting and his knack for storytelling—gifts he carried with him throughout his years and shared generously with all who knew him. Both communities shaped the man he was, and in both places he left behind lasting friendships and memories.
Jimmy and “Bootsie” were known together simply as “Bootsie and Jimmy”—a pair whose love and laughter lit up every room. Their partnership was full of humor, devotion, and friendship, and their memory will forever remain a cherished part of their family’s story.
He is survived by his son, James “Bobby” Robert Miller, Jr. (Bernice) of Courtland, Mississippi; daughter, Barbara Ann Hooper of Indianola, Mississippi; grandson, James “Rob” Robert Miller, III of Holcomb, Mississippi; three granddaughters, Krista Elizabeth Miller of Indianola, Mississippi Mary Ashley Miller-Shaddix (Andrew) of Gulfport, Mississippi, and Karen Cummins (Andy) of Pope, Mississippi; two great-grandsons, Carson Miller and Matthew Barnhill; and two great-granddaughters, Madison Barnhill and Ali Cockrell (Thomas).
Visitation will be held at First United Methodist Church in Clarendon, Arkansas, on Saturday, September 20, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. Funeral services will follow at 2:00 p.m., with interment immediately afterward in Shady Grove Cemetery in Clarendon.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or the Wounded Warrior Project in honor of Jimmy’s memory.
He will be deeply missed but forever remembered with love, laughter, and gratitude by all who knew him.
