Roxie Cain, of Clarendon, died at Baptist Health Medical Center in Little Rock, at the age of 93. She was the youngest child born to Fred Burns and Carrie Gipson-Burns in Clarendon.

Roxie was a member of Bethel Temple Pentecostal Church in Brinkley for the last five years. She was formerly a member of Baptist Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Clarendon, where she sang in the church and was a faithful member.

Roxie worked as a custodian for the Monroe County Courthouse in Clarendon for more than seven years before retiring in the late 1980’s. She had previously worked as a housekeeper for many years for several local families in the Clarendon community (the Margie Bateman family, the Ben Pupsta family, the Gray family and the Yelvington family).

Her parents, her husband, Roosevelt Cain, and six children: James Cole, Cleo Cole, Durley Abston, Jerome Abston, Louis (Rasheeda Muhammad) Abston and Charlie Cain; five grandchildren: Virginia Davis, Rickey Beard, James Cole Jr., Peggy Beard and Marie Beard all preceded Roxie in death.

Survivors are: one son Floyd Abston of Denver, CO; four daughters: Delois Davis of Brinkley; Essie Ross of Wichita, KS; Dorothy (Sylvester) Gilliard of Memphis, TN; and Lille Mae (James) Betts of Clarendon; extended family members: Bertha Cain of Judsonia; Amos Cain, Leonard Cain, Roy Cain, Albert Cain, Patricia McGhee and Willene Jones all of Columbus, OH; her longtime best friend and sister Evelyn Betts of Clarendon; thirty-two grandchildren, and a host of great grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held on March 21 at Branscumb Funeral Home Chapel in Brinkley, with Pastor Linda Driver officiating. Interment took place at Shady Grove Cemetery in Clarendon by Branscumb Johnson & Gilchrest Funeral Home of Brinkley.
