Channie C. Langston February 9, 1926 - March 11, 2020
Channie Langston, of Holly Grove, died at her home following a brief illness, at the age of 94. She was born in Hayti, Missouri to Monroe Taylor and Ruby Hawkins-Taylor. Channie’s family relocated to Holly Grove, where she was raised and attended school and church. She attended school in Holly Grove at the Simpson School.
During her early years, Channie and her family attended church at St. Paul AME Church in Holly Grove. She later joined First Baptist Church, where she served as a member of the church’s Usher Board, and remained a faithful and dedicated member for more than 50 plus years.
Channie was employed as a cook for Mid-Delta Community Services as a cook for a few years before retiring back in the early 1990’s. She was formerly also employed by the Shoe Factor in Clarendon for 15 plus years.
Her parents, her husband, two children: Geneva Drinker and Parnell Langston; two grandchildren: Rommell Clark and Sunsera Baylis; a great grandchild Shonell Drinker Haynes all preceded Channie in death. Survivors are: nine sons: Willie Drinker Sr. of Sherwood; Mac (Donna) Drinker of Marietta, GA, Albert Drinker of Phoenix, AZ; James Drinker and Henry Lee Artis both of Holly Grove; Feaster Drinker, Samuel Langston III and Paul Langston all of Chicago, Ill; and Alfred Artis of Pasco, WA; eight daughters: Ruby Smith, Carolyn Langston and Sandra Brown all of Holly Grove; Clara Harris of Kankakee, Ill; Mary Drinker and Sharon Langston both of Chicago, Ill; Andella (Charles) Clark of Mattson, Ill; and Janice Langston of Little Rock; two grandchildren she raised as her own: Charlotte Drinker of Holly Grove; and Funtel Drinker of Chicago, Ill; sixty-nine grandchildren, one hundred twelve great grandchildren, forty-nine great-great grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held on March 21 at First Baptist Church in Holly Grove, with Reverend Ronald Laurent officiating. Interment took place at Hayes Cemetery by Branscumb Johnson & Gilchrest Funeral Home of Brinkley.
