Helen Winston, of Augusta, died at Unity Health-White County Medical Center in Searcy at the age of 83. She was in Fitzhugh, to V.S. Murray and Jessie Ward-Murray. Helen received her education from the Fitzhugh Community Public School. Later in life, she was fortunate enough to go on to earn a GED. She also went on to attend Delta Vocation School in Marked Tree, where she earned a Certificate in Dietary/Dietician and she received training and certification as a Certified Nurse Assistant.

Helen was a lifelong member of New Holly Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Augusta, formerly of the Fitzhugh community, where she served as a member of the Missionary Society, former church treasurer and member of the Mother’s board. She worked as the dietician for the Augusta Head Start Center for 20 years before retiring. She also formerly worked as a seamstress at the Van Heusen Shirt Factory in Augusta for more than 15 years. She was a former employee of Woodruff County Hospital in McCrory.

Her parents; a son, David Allen; five siblings, Jessie Murray, Betty Ferguson, Beulah Hardy, James Murray and Ellen Murray, all preceded her in death. Survivors are: six sons, James (Althea) Murray, Kenneth Brown and Edward (Tamika) Winston, all of Augusta, Darrell (Earnestine) Winston, of West Helena, Quinton (Lisa) Winston, of Waldorf, MD, and Gregory (Sandra) Winston, of Maumelle; two daughters, Joyce Green, of Augusta, and Lora (Berlin) Marshall, of Sugarland, TX; twenty-eight grandchildren; twenty-seven great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; four brothers, Alex (Annell) Moore, Booker Murray and Larry (Jeanne) Murray, all of Augusta, and Donald (Eunice) Murray, of Searcy; two sisters, Clementine Brown of Searcy, and Sharon (Robert) Wren, of Long Beach, CA; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Graveside services were April 18 at New Quiet Cemetery in Augusta with Reverend Chester Gilmore officiating. Arrangements were by Branscumb Johnson & Gilchrest Funeral Home of Brinkley.
