George Neldon, Jr. November 20, 1938 - May 6, 2020

George Harrison Neldon, Jr., passed away at age 81. A son of George and Nellie Neldon, he was born in Jackson County and in time became a 1956 graduate of McCrory High School.

George and Shirley Watkins were married January 17, 1959 and lived in Gregory, where he worked at the Cotton Gin. He later served as district manager for Norgas, (Ferrall Gas) in Augusta and remained with the company until retirement.

He was also a commercial fisherman working both the White and Cache Rivers and became known as the “Catfish Hunter on Cache River”. He was well skilled in taxidermy and other enjoyments included gardening, hunting, and beekeeping.

George was a long time member of the Church of Christ and in his devotion to the Lord often stated “This Is All I Have Ever Known.” He was currently active in the Augusta Church, where he served for a time as treasurer and song leader.

Preceding in death were his: parents; wife, Shirley; brother, Bobby Gene Neldon; grandson, Christopher Harrison Brown and canine companion, Camo Pete. Remaining survivors include his: daughters and their spouses, Ann and Paul Thompson of Little Rock and Debbie and Joe Brown of Marvell; grandchildren, Amanda Johnson and Joseph Hicks of Cabot; great-grandchildren, Cody Wilson Burks, Cade Allen Johnson, Cailee Ashtyn Johnson, and Gwendolyn Nicole Hicks; great-great-grandchild, Ella-Mae Wyatt Burks; sister, Carolen Duncan and husband, Fred of Searcy.

Graveside services were May 9 at Augusta Memorial Park Cemetery by Bob Neal & Sons Brickell Funeral Home in Marvell.
