Joe Louis Brown

Joe Louis Brown of Brinkley passed away at hospice Home Care Center in Little Rock at the age of 82. He was born in Brinkley to Walter Brown Sr. and Mary Gamble-Brown. Joe was raised and attended school at the Brinkley Public School System and attended Marian Anderson High School.

Joe was a member of Mount of Olive Ministries (Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church) in Brinkley under the leadership of the late Revered Roy Laird. During his early years there he was honored to sing in the church choir. While he was growing up in Brinkley, he and his family attended church at Gethsemane Missionary Baptist Church. For several years during his early part of his life, Joe worked in the construction industry. He also formerly worked at the Brinkley Cotton Compress.

Joe was united in holy matrimony to Earnestine Culp in 1958. To this union, seven children were born. One thing Joe was well known for in his community, was his sense of humor and his ability to make others laugh and feel comfortable around him. He loved and lived a simple yet very fulfilling life. Joe enjoyed raising a garden, riding horses, and riding his bike throughout the community. He was an avid fan of music, particularly the Blues. And he was a fan of NBA Basketball and Boxing.

His parents; his wife; two sons, Timothy L. Brown Sr. and Captain Victor L. Brown; grandchildren, Antoine Hayes, Aaliyah Brown and Lauren Brown; a brother, Walter “Redd” Brown Jr.; three sisters, Elizabeth Gamble-Cade, Juanita Brown and Versie Lee Brown, all preceded Joe in death. Survivors are sons, Antoine A. Brown and Keith (Tiffani) Turner, both of Pearland, TX, Jerome Brown, of Memphis, TN, and Jerry Brown and Gary Brown, both of Little Rock; a daughter, Anita (Robert) Brown-Loving, of Pearland, TX; seventeen grandchildren; twenty-nine great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held June 27 at Branscumb Funeral Home Chapel in Brinkley with Reverend Keith McGee officiating. Interment took place at Haven of Rest Cemetery in Brinkley by Branscumb Johnson & Gilchrest Funeral Home of Brinkley.
