Ethel Marie Sanders Simon December 21, 1926 - June 29, 2020

Marie Simon passed away peacefully at Broadway Nursing Center in West Memphis, at the age of 93. She was a former resident of Helena and Brinkley.

Marie was born in Clarksdale, Mississippi, to the late John William Sanders and Ethel Amana Bennett Sanders of Clarksdale. She was preceded in death by her husband, Francis Eugene Simon, brothers, John William Sanders, Harold Aubrey Sanders and sister Emma Katherine ReMillard.

Marie was a graduate of Clarksdale High School, class of 1944, and later, closely involved in the family business at Gene’s Steakhouse in Helena, Sir Loin’s Inn in North Little Rock, The Flames Restaurant in Brinkley, the Ozark Village Restaurant in Eureka Springs, and the chain of Ole South Pancake Houses throughout Arkansas. She was a lifelong, loyal, and energetic Episcopalian serving Saint George’s Church, Clarksdale, Mississippi, Saint John’s Church in Helena and prominent participant in the reorganization of Saint Luke’s Church in Brinkley.

She is survived by her four children Carol Simmons of Marion, Kelly of Bentonville, Carla Myers of Helena, Kerry of Brinkley, and fourteen grandchildren.

Family services will be conducted at the Oaklawn Cemetery in Brinkley by Bob Neal and Sons and officiated by Fr. Ray Brown of Saint John’s Church, Helena. Marie will take her place beside Gene on a date yet to be determined.
