Steve Word, age 64, passed away at his home in Brinkley. A son of Samuel and Mary Evelyn (Lineback) Word, he was born in Fayetteville. After the family moved to Brinkley, he attended St. John's Catholic School, Partee Elementary, and Brinkley High School. Steve enjoyed playing the trumpet in the Tiger Band and was honored to graduate with the BHS class of 1975.

He was a member of the Boy Scouts of America and reached each milestone of accomplishment to become an Eagle Scout, the highest rank attainable in the program. Through the years he, along with countless other young men, valued it among their most treasured achievements in life.

In a career, Steve began with his father at Sam Word Associates, serving as a surveyor and from there joined Summerford Engineering, Inc. He was a valued employee of the company for the past twenty years and was currently serving as a project representative.
Steve was a member of the First United Methodist Church, beginning with baptism on December 29, 1957, at the Methodist Church in Jonesboro. He has remained a part of the Brinkley church family since early childhood. He was an avid student of the Bible and when time allowed, enjoyed gardening, hunting, fishing, and studying US History.

He was preceded in death by his father, Samuel Floyd Word. Immediate survivors include his: mother, Mary Evelyn Word of Little Rock; one brother, David Word of Gulfport, MS; three sisters, Susan Nafziger of Payson, AZ, Gretchen Ewing of Charlotte, NC, and Jane Anderson of Harrisburg, IL.

Memorial services were July 22 at the First United Methodist Church in

Brinkley by Bob Neal & Sons Funeral Home.
