Glenda C. Brown June 23, 1948 – July 9, 2020

Glenda C. Brown of Memphis, TN, formerly of Brinkley, passed away at the age of 72. She was born in Cotton Plant to Jerry Brown and Betty Houston. Glenda accepted Christ at an early age at First Freewill Baptist Church in Brinkley. Later years, after moving to Memphis, in the '60s, she became a member of Union Grove Missionary Baptist Church until God gave a vision to Reverend Frank Cunningham to start a church. She and her family were the founding members. In 1998, she relocated back to Brinkley and became a member of the Grand Street Church of Christ. In 2013, she became a member of Brown Chapel CME Church under the leadership of Reverend Willie A. Branch, Jr. When her health declined, she moved back home to Memphis and rejoined her church, Greater Faith Missionary Baptist Church, under the new leadership of her current pastor, Reverend Glen Cunningham.
Glenda attended Marian Anderson High School in the Brinkley Public School District. She was retired from MIFA as the thrift store manager for over 30 plus years. She was very involved in her community, whether it was Memphis or Brinkley, as an activist. She served on many boards and auxiliaries and was one of the founding members of the Marian Anderson Commission, NAACP, Saint Francis Quartet Singing Union, Brown Chapel Missionary Society, Glenda Goldenrettes Majorette Team, and the Glenview Neighborhood Association. Glenda enjoyed a quiet, yet fulfilling life. She had a great sense of humor and loved to host family gatherings and sing with her group, The Sensational Five. She also worked closely with the Brinkley Chamber of Commerce on community service projects.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Jerry Brown and Betty Houston; her son, Eugene Moore, Jr.; her sister, Delois Ingle; and two very close friends, more like sisters, Lula Baker and MaDean Moore Screen.
