Leona Elmar Morris of Flint, Michigan, formerly of Gregory, died at Swank Home Assisted Living Center in Swartz Creek, Michigan at the age of 99. Leona affectionately known as "Gran", was born to Gus and Harriet Bledsoe Morris of Gregory.

As a young woman she moved to Flint, Michigan, where she worked in antique collecting & selling. Naturally an artist, storyteller, and historian Gran created beautiful quilts with colors and patterns as diverse as the history behind each square of fabric and piece of old family clothing.

Her parents, John Gus Morris and Harriet Bledsoe Morris; daughter, Dorothy L. Nichols; son-in-law, Freddie L. Nichols; sisters, Ivory L. Morris, Alice Morris Boyd and Octavia T. Walker; brother, John Gus Morris; grandson, Roy V. Nichols; and sister-in-law, Jean Morris, all preceded her in death. Survivors are her grandson, Gary W. (Florence) Nichols, of Missouri City, TX; great-grandchildren, Mario (Ciara) Nichols, Tomika D. Dunbar, Roy DeOndre Nichols, RaShad (Megan) Nichols, and Armaad (NaTasha) Nichols, all of Flint, MI, and Onja Brunswick and Gary “Deuce” Nichols, of Missouri City, TX; seventeen great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Edith M. Morris, of Detroit MI; nieces and nephews, Allen (Deloris) Morris, Elizabeth (Earl) Walker, Carolyn (Joseph) Allen, Dena (Dorian) Crawford, Paulette Dozier (Aprille, Dionne, Christopher Slater), Yvonne Taylor, Andria (Rumzy) Crout, and Erik Taylor; special family, Mary Carroll O’Mara, Philip Timyan, Fred Cheatom, Velma Nichols, Patricia Horne McGee, Eric (Lela) Harvey, Arthur "Toot' McGee, Sandra (Michael) Gant-Dean, Yolanda Gant, Flora (Mickel) Bridges, Tara Furlow-Howell, and Deborah Hartsfield; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Graveside services were August 19 at at Buckeye Cemetery in Gregory by Branscumb Johnson & Gilchrest Funeral Home of Brinkley.
