Maxine Phipps November 26, 1967 – August 19, 2020

Maxine Phipps of Little Rock, formerly of Omaha, Nebraska, passed away at Baptist Health Medical Center in Little Rock at the age of 52. She was born in Holly Grove to George Phipps and Nannie Mae Hendrix.

Maxine received her education from the Holly Grove Public School System. She was a member of the Holly Grove High School Class of 1986. As a child growing up in Holly Grove, “Max” as Maxine was lovingly called, attended church services with her family at First Baptist Church, where she was a member until she relocated to Nebraska. In her early 20’s, Maxine and her family relocated to Omaha, Nebraska, where she lived and worked for more than 25 years. Maxine was employed as a housekeeping supervisor for Country Inn & Suites in Omaha for several years before her health failed.

Her parents; her son, Steven Phipps; her daughter, Ariel Phipps; and two brothers, Charles Walker and Carl Gill, all preceded her in death. Survivors are a daughter, Angela Phipps, of Omaha, NE; a son, Michael Ross, of Omaha, NE; four grandchildren, Steven Phipps Jr., Johnathan Newte Jr., Janiya Newte and Jamarion Carter, all of Omaha, NE; a brother, George Phipps Jr., of Holly Grove; seven sisters, Laura (Reginald) Strain, Linda Strong (Anthony) Tucker, Tammy (Grover) Rowan and Carolyn (Michael) Jones, all of Little Rock, Gail Phipps, of Omaha, NE, Katina Phipps of Denver, CO, and Reba Farr, of Clarendon; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held August 29 at Holy Tabernacle Church in Holly Grove with Pastor Debra Burton officiating. Interment was private by Branscumb Johnson & Gilchrest Funeral Home of Brinkley.
