Joe Overton Jr. January 9, 1935 – August 27, 2020

Joe Overton Jr. of Brinkley, formerly of Moro, passed away at Cla-Clif Nursing and Rehab Center in Brinkley at the age of 85. He was born in Moro to Joe Overton Sr. and Estella Robinson-Overton.

While growing up in Moro, Joe received his education from the Moro/St. Paul School. He also attended Carver High School in Moro. He was a lifelong member of St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church in Moro. During his time at St. Paul, he served as a longtime member of the church Usher Board and took great pride in his duties as a church usher.

Joe was formerly an employee of D&L Manufacturing in Marianna for more than 12 years. He also worked as a farmer for a local farm family in the Moro community for many years.

His parents; five brothers, Henry Overton, Thurman Culp, Noah Overton, Calvin Overton and Pete Overton Sr.; three sisters, Mae Bell Thomas, Pearlie Mae Thomas and Mae Rose Overton, all preceded him in death. Survivors are his sister, Queen Burnett, of Brinkley; a sister-in-law, Almeter Overton, of Moro; and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 5 at 11 AM at Branscumb Funeral Home Chapel, 911 North Main Street in Brinkley, with Reverend Leroy Harper officiating. Interment will take place at St. Paul Cemetery in Moro by Branscumb Johnson & Gilchrest Funeral Home of Brinkley.
