Floyd Morris Grimes, Jr. of Blackton, departed this life for his heavenly home at age of 77. Floyd was in Memphis, TN the eldest child of Floyd Sr. and Alice Harriet Grimes. He received his education from Brinkley School System and later became lead mechanic for Synergy Gas in Brinkley, until his retirement in 2004. He accepted Christ as his personal Savior in 1992 and became a faithful member of Monroe Baptist Church, where he sang in the choir.

Floyd was an avid hunter and fisherman, loved camping, and was known for cooking up the best steaks and fried potatoes over the open campfire at deer camp. He loved going on rides on his motorcycle, watching westerns, listening to bluegrass music, but above all, his family was what he loved most. Floyd loved his children, and nothing made him prouder than to see them achieving their goals and celebrating their successes. He played many roles throughout his life, but his most favorite was when he got the role of becoming a grandpa. The grandkids knew grandpa and grandma’s house was most definitely the place to be on the weekends and he looked forward to their visits. He sure loved spoiling them and filling them up with all the chocolate they could stand. Floyd was a family man and well-known in the community. He was often known as “papaw” to all the area kids and loved them as his own. All of Floyd, Tonya, and Jill’s friends over the years were considered his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Bonnie Sue Gurley. Survivors are his wife of 46 years, Diane Grimes; children, Floyd Lynn Grimes (Tonya), of Rich, Tonya Calaway (Lance), of Moro, Jill Vandesteeg (Chris), of Fort Smith, Lisa Parson (Danny), of Palestine, and Phillip Bennett (Melanie), of Batesville; grandchildren, Chelsea Capshaw, Coby Calaway, Kalin Calaway, Sydney Vandesteeg, Madelyn Vandesteeg, Aidan Vandesteeg, Shelby Ford, Austin Ford, Floyd L.
