Albert Smith, Sr. of Brinkley passed away at his home following a brief illness at the age of 83. He was the widower of Rosie “Peggy” Austin-Smith. “Lottie” as Albert was affectionately known, was born in Brinkley to Jack Pye and Gussie Tribble. He received his formal education from the Brinkley Public School System.

In earlier years, Albert was a member of the former New Mount Canaan Baptist Church in Brinkley. He was employed as a farmer with Nash Farms/Red Dixon Farms of Brinkley for a combined total of more than 50 years.

His parents; wife; his siblings, Ellouise Rawls, David Smith Sr., Zelma Gladney, Ruthie Mae Barnes, Mildred Brunson, Willie Smith, James Smith, Naomi Hollins and James Pye, all preceded him in death. Survivors are four sons, Kelvin (Kathy) Smith, Charles (Brenda) Smith, Derrick (Karen) Smith and Albert Smith Jr., all of Brinkley; a daughter, Pamela (Dennis) Smith-Morton, of Brinkley; twenty-one grandchildren; thirty-seven great-grandchildren; extended family, Tyrone (Sandra) Hubbard, of Memphis, TN, and Beverly (David) Washington, of Brinkley; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were November 8 at the Brinkley Convention Center in Brinkley with Reverend Lamont Swanigan officiating. Internment was at Haven of Rest Cemetery in Brinkley by Branscumb Johnson & Gilchrest Funeral Home of Brinkley.
